This is your host, Denise Boomer and Dr. Bee Boomer, welcoming you to this weeks edition of the Baby Boomer Health on PodcastForBoomers.com.

This week we are talking about Stretching.

Stretching before you exercise is good for you. Maybe! It depends upon on the type of stretching you do.

The old fashioned static stretching – holding a stretch for 20 seconds – is not good for you. It actually weakens the muscle for up to 30 minutes.

You need to start your stretching with an aerobic warm up such a jogging. This warms the muscles and dilates the blood vessels, increasing the blood flow. Follow this with dynamic stretching. For example the straight leg march. Stand up and kick you right leg up with toes pointed to the sky. Touch your toes with your left hand. Bring the leg down and repeat with the left leg and right hand. Do 6 repetitions of this.

We don't know if dynamic stretching protects against injury but we do know that static stretching offers no protection at all.

Thanks to Gretchen Reynolds and the NY Times for this information.

This week we are talking about The Free Hook.

If you could buy Lindt chocolate truffles for 14 cents more than Hershey Kisses but below retail what would you do? Buy Lindt chocolate for 15 cents or Hershey Kiss for 1 cent. Well 73% purchased Lindt chocolate to 27% Hershey Kiss. Now lower the price for each one by 1 cent. The difference is price is the same but the Hershey Kiss is free. Now what would you do? Well 69% got the Kiss and only 31% got the Lindt chocolate truffle.

Now let's look at a credit card with no annual fee. Better deal? What if the interest charges are higher than a card with an annual fee?

Free shipping if you spend a certain amount can be a good deal or it can cause you to buy something you really don't want or need just to get the free shipping.

You need to be careful or the Free Hook can cost you more money.

Thanks for listening.

This is your host, Denise Boomer and Dr. Bee Boomer, welcoming you to this weeks edition of the Baby Boomer Technology on PodcastForBoomers.com.

This week we are talking about Botnets.

If you place a new computer on the Internet that is not protected with the latest firewalls, malware cleaner and operating system, on average it takes 5 minutes for it to be captured and taken over by a botnet. Even with the best protection, your computer could be taken over. A test of the best leading PC security suites, the best only detected 64 of the 300 software vulnerabilities. That make it possible for a botnet to take over a machine.

These botnets are responsible for the majority of e-mail spam, stealing financial information, and installing malicious software on PC's.

The best solution is a world wide solution that involves all private and public networks. This may happen in time but it is still a long way off.

The best that we can do is keep your operating system up to date at all times and use a top rated security suite on your PC.
