This week we are talking about Disappearing Ink.
Xerox has developed a new paper with self-erasing properties. This "Erasable Paper" slowly fades back to its original state within 24 hours. With 40% of all print outs discarded every day, this paper could come in handy and save money. Once it has faded back to blank, it can be used again. Recycling time is just 24 hours.
This paper is still in research stages and not available. However if it was available, when would you use it? What do you want to keep beyond 24 hours and which paper is in your printer? Keeping track could become quite a problem.

This week we are talking about Grape Juice.
We have all learned about the benefits of a glass of red wine every day. But what if you don't like red wine? Would grape juice work as well?
Red wine has resveratrol and flavonoids. They are also found in grape juice made from red and dark purple Concord grapes. Recent studies have shown grape juice can reduce the risk of blood clots and prevent LDL (bad cholesterol) from sticking to coronary arteries. In one study two servings of grape juice a day in two weeks improved blood flow in patients with coronary artery disease. Another study showed a lowering of blood pressure and cholesterol levels with daily consumption of grape juice.
Be sure to drink Concord grape juice without artificial ingredients and added sugar.

This week we are talking about The Multitasking Illusion.
Multitasking is the switching between projects/tasks quickly and causes inefficiency, stress and lower productivity. You lose your focus when you switch between tasks frequently. You really just can't do that well. We can do a couple of things at the same time if they are routine but if a task demands more cognitive processes the brain becomes a bottleneck.
When a bunch of visual stimuli are in front of you, only one or two things get through to your brain. And when you move back and forth between tasks you lose time. This time is lost as the brain begins again to work on the new project.
One group looked at text messaging and driving in people between 17 and 24. Their reaction time decreased by 35% and was slower then driving drunk. Some multitasking can get you killed.
Dr. Hallowell coined the phrase "attention deficit trait". This springs entirely from the environment. This leads to inefficiency and under production.
So how do we fix this? Set boundaries for yourself and others. Turn off your cell phone at work. Don't allow cell phones in a meeting. Decrease your interruptions so you can concentrate on the task in front of you. And remember to eat right and get plenty of sleep – remember both are required for being efficient.
Thanks for listening.
