Finding that social impact encore career can be a challenge. But the non-profit organizations are facing a 600,000 senior management deficit. So there are opportunities especially if you have the experience they are looking for.

Harvard is experimenting with an Advanced Leadership Initiative that is designed to help people who want an encore career focused on a social problem to learn and find that encore career. Interestingly the final task for these students is not a thesis but a business plan.

Well 73% purchased Lindt chocolate to 27% Hershey Kiss. Now lower the price for each one by 1 cent. The difference is price is the same but the Hershey Kiss is free. Now what would you do? Well 69% got the Kiss and only 31% got the Lindt chocolate truffle.

Now let's look at a credit card with no annual fee. Better deal? What if the interest charges are higher than a card with an annual fee?

Free shipping if you spend a certain amount can be a good deal or it can cause you to buy something you really don't want or need just to get the free shipping.

We have all read about people cutting out coupons in the newspaper to reduce their grocery bills. Well in this economy people are looking for bargains online. And one way to find a bargain is to search for a discount coupon to use online.

So how can you find discount coupons online? Look to:

www.couponmom.com
www.couponcabin.com

And there are more coupon sites. One other way is to do an Internet search with the name of your favorite store plus the word coupon. If you use Firefox as your Internet browser, www.retailmenot.com offers a free add-on that will notify you if there is a coupon for the store you are visiting online.

What people recommend is that you check for a coupon before you search the store. And if you don't find a coupon wait for a few weeks and see if you can't find one.

Now you must be aware that some sites may list out of date coupons or unverified coupons. So be aware of this possibility when you shop.

According to a recent study by GfK Roper Consulting, the hottest Christmas gift this year will be the gift card – either a store care or Visa card. People will not be giving as many gifts but want one gift that counts.

Just be sure you are getting a gift card from a store not in financial trouble. If they fail before the gift card is used, the card can become worthless. That's why many will opt for the Visa gift card.

Who knows, in the future you may be able to have the gift card on your cell phone and use it directly from there. No more plastic. Maybe next year. For now get the plastic gift card.

As we get closer to retirement, the economy can hit us harder. Not only are prices rising but retirement accounts are hit hard in reduced value.

But you are still working and can wait out the downside. Just continue to work and rebuild for retirement.

For those who have retired, it can really be a catastrophe. Some questions to ask yourself. Can you go back to work? Can you survive until the economy recovers? Retirees are hit harder because many of them are not able to work and therefore make up for their losses.

So your older relatives may be in a very serious financial situation now that the economy has gotten worse. You may want to check on them to be sure they can survive under these circumstances.

This week we are talking about $1 a day for food.

Can you live on a dollar a day for food for two people? The answer is yes believe it or not. But what are you eating? Is it nutritious and healthy?

A couple in Encinitas, California tried it for a month. Their diet changed over night. They had to give up many store-bought foods and dinners out. Even bread and canned refried beans were too expensive. Instead they bought raw beans, rice, cornmeal, and oatmeal in bulk. They made their own bread and tortillas. Fresh fruit and vegetables were not an option.

Breakfast consisted of oatmeal, lunch peanut butter and jelly sandwich and dinner often consisted of beans, rice and homemade tortillas. Homemade pancakes was affordable but not syrup. One of the biggest changes was the amount of time spent preparing meals. And lack of energy was a side effect of the diet.

A recent study of 370 foods sold in supermarkets in Seattle showed that junk foods – high in calories and low in nutrients – were far less expensive and dropped in price by 1.8%. During the same period nutrient-rich and low in calorie food like fruit and vegetables went up in price 19.5%. The old food pyramid is being replaced by the budget pyramid.

This week we are talking about Ending Credit Card Debt.

Credit card debt is not imposible to end. It might appear to be a nightmare. It might seem like you will never pay off your credit cards. It might keep you awake at night. But you can beat this. You can pay it all off.

Credit card debt reduction starts with a budget. Simply add up all the expenses you have each month in one column. In another column add up your income. Do not include your credit card payments.

Next, add up the minimum payments required for all of your credit card debt and add that number to your total expenses. If your income matches or exceeds the total expenses, you are in great shape. Figure out what is the most you could pay towards the smallest credit card and pay that amount. Pay the minimum due on the other credit cards.

When that credit card is paid off, start paying the most you can afford to pay each month towards the next smallest credit card debt. By paying off each card one at a time you will have them all paid off in record time. At the same time, do not spend more than you have budgeted. And this will not work if you continue to add to your credit card debt.

If your income is not enough to cover all your expenses and the minimum due on each credit card debt, then you will have to come up with some extra money each month. You could get a second job temporarily or sell items. Or, if you are married and one spouse is not working, they could get a job temporarily.

If things are really desperate you might need to reduce expenses by selling an extra vehicle, selling your home and getting a smaller one to reduce mortgage payments and utility expenses, or sell your home and rent for awhile. There are many options available. The important thing is that you reduce expenses, increase your income, or both.

If all else fails bankruptcy is a last resort. It will not be easy, but it is a possible way to achieve credit card debt reduction. Before you resort to bankruptcy, however, try to work it out. Get professional financial advice from a debt reduction counselor if you need help preparing a budget or figuring out a payment plan. They can be a great help.

During this time keep in mind that you will get out of this. Do not let it wreck your marriage or your family. Whether it takes a few months or a few years, you will succeed in getting out of debt. It just takes determination, patience, and some wise financial planning.

With the recent down turn of the economy many people are anxious about their financial future. This anxiety can lead to making bad decisions about their financial holdings. These mistakes can also hurt the economy. So the amount of anxiety of the financial crisis can actually make it worse.

Anxiety can also lead to pounding heart, sweaty hands, headaches and indigestion. So what can you do? First have a good anxiety moment. Talk with your financial counselor about what you can do and do it. Then realize how fortunate you really are. And understand your time of anxiety over this financial crisis is over.

Don't let others create anxiety over this or any other crisis. If you feel yourself starting to get anxious consider yoga, meditation exercise or taking a walk. Any of these can move the anxiety thoughts out of the center of your thinking. You feel better now?

A preapproval is when not only is your credit rating checked but also your financial documents. This way the potential loan is solid. You now know how much you can bid for the property.

If you are bidding on a property play it safe and have your financial resources in line and know your limits before the bidding starts.
