Show Notes:

 Lyric Hearing Aids

In general hearing aids are not liked very much.  The batteries die frequently, they squeal, over amplify background noise, must be removed to shower or sleep.  Many give up and live with their hearing loss.

A new hearing aid called Lyric has overcome many of the objections.  It is currently being tested on 500 patients.  It is hidden deep in the ear canal just 4 millimeters from the ear drum.  And it can be removed with a small magnet.

It is worn 24 hours a day and its batteries last one to four months.  When the battery dies, the whole hearing aid is replaced.  You do not pay for a new hearing aid each time but pay a subscription fee of $2,900  to $3,600 per year for both ears.

A magnet is used to turn it on and off or to remove it.  It only takes a few minutes to replace it.

If your ear canal is too narrow or it might not work in about 50% of patients.  A new version under development will work for 85% of patients.

The current model should be available in about 100 sites by the end of this year.

There's no reason it should cost that much money!! And it cost that much PER YEAR!! You know these things probably cost a couple bucks to make.. Why not make it affordable for EVERYONE to get one if they choose. Or make it that price for every 8-10 years instead of every one year.
