When I was young I watched TV programs where people could strap on a jet pack and fly off into the world.  Well you can almost do that today.  A gas powered twin fan propelled "jet pack" has been developed and flown.  It is still experimental but production may come soon.

It stands 5 feet tall and the rotors are encased in two large ducts.  It rest on three legs for easy strapping on and off.  Currently it weighs 250 pounds and gives off 600 pounds of thrust.  And it comes with an emergency parachute.
