Show Notes:
Nearly 80% of US adults are on the Internet for an average of 11 hours a week. This number has grown each year. Of adults over 65 only 9% are on the internet. However Baby Boomers are on the Internet and as they age, this hours of internet use will grow.
That's a lot of people on the Internet in this country. But if you add the demand for video, there could be slow downs in the future. It is estimated that Youtube last year used as much bandwidth as all of the Internet in 2000. And the demand for high bandwidth requiring games, videos, audio is growing. Some feel that the demand will out pace the supply of bandwidth by 2011.
Other countries have invested in their infrastructure needed for high speed internet connections. Some like Taiwan offer connection speed twice the premium high speed connections in California for a lot less cost.
The real problem will be the loss of technology innovation. If the US can't improve its infrastructure quick enough then the innovative companies will locate elsewhere. We could lose our technology advantage.
So enjoy the Internet and its various offerings. Watch what happens to our connectivity and speed.
