Show Notes:
Would you brew your own gasoline for your car if it would cost less than at the gas station? Most of us would consider it.
Floyd Butterfield has developed a method to do that. He calls it MicroFueler. Not available yet but will be by the end of this year. It produces ethanol fuel with less emissions than those commercial producers and it is the size of a stackable washer/dryer. Fuel for the MicroFueler is sugar (currently) or stock feed (later). And it takes about 14 lbs of sugar for a gallon of ethanol.
So what are the problems:
Sugar is expensive (20 cents a pound) – inedible sugar is 2.5 cents a pound – developing distribution system
Need permit to distill ethanol at home – application process only
Can't legally drive car on 100% ethanol today – but ruling could be changed if the demand is there.
So keep your eye open to possibilities of brewing your own ethanol for your car if gas prices continue to rise.
