In our futures are monitoring devices that can report movements, vital signs, pill taking and other activities of life without you doing anything special. But you still need your panic button to summon help.
All of this is in the early stages of development for the general marketplace. But active studies are taking place with this technology today. And it is expected to be in wide use within 10 years.
Today we boomers could use this technology to monitor our elderly relatives. Allowing them to stay in their own homes longer. Tomorrow we will be monitored by our kids. So get used to the idea of "big son or daughter" watching you even if they are hundreds of miles away.
Like everything it's a balancing act. Good or bad, this is the direction the future is taking at this time.
