This is your host, Denise Boomer and Dr. Bee Boomer, welcoming you to this weeks edition of the Baby Boomer Health on PodcastForBoomers.com.

This week we are talking about Your Very Own Electronic Medical Record.

We have all heard about the advantages of electronic medical records for provider offices and facilities. Now personal medical records controlled by patients are becoming available. Some require manual entry by the patient, others you can fax information or through electronic devices upload the data directly.

Is this going to be free? No but it can help you health care providers to monitor your progress and adjust your treatment. With more and more devices such as scales, blood pressure monitors and blood sugar monitors becoming capable of electronically sending the finding to the web either directly or through a hand held device, your health monitoring can be come an electronic record on the web. And you as the "owner" can determine who you share the results with. As security issues are addressed this could become a large benefit to patients.

Thanks for listening.
Remember your comments are always welcome.

Dr Bee and Denise,

This is a fascinating option. Not only for us Boomers o use for ourselves. But what about if we're members of the Sandwich Generation, and concerned about the health of a parent? Could we possibly have them get one of these gizmos and set it up so the results are sent to US daily for long-distance monitoring? And then perhaps if we DON'T receive a transmission on a given day, we know to call or send in the search and rescue posse? LMK if this would work…
