Show Notes:
Women and Heart Disease
Many women are considered not to be a risk of heart disease under the usual criteria. However is the woman has a family history of early heart disease, they may need a CT scan to look for calcium buildup in their arteries – indicating serious heart disease risk.
Grapefruit
It has been known for a long time that drinking grapefruit juice can affect the levels of medications taken at the same time. For example – warfarin (blood thinner). Taking grapefruit juice with warfarin results in very high blood levels of warfarin. This can lead to bleeding.
A study has recently determined that the furanocourmarins (FCs) is the culprit. That is interesting but you should use orange juice (no FCs) instead of grapefruit juice if you are taking medications.
