Show Notes:
A recent study of 2,300 men, average age of 72 when the study began. They were followed for 25 years. 970 of them survived into their 90s. There were five behaviors studied – smoking, weight management, blood pressure control, exercise and avoiding diabetes. Of the 970 to survived there was no less chronic diseases among them then those that did not survive.
What affect did the behaviors have on survival?
Smokers had a 90% risk of death compared to non-smokers
Diabetes increased risk of death by 86%
Obesity increased risk of death by 44%
High blood pressure increased the risk by 28%
No regular exercise increased the risk of death by 20-30%
Remember those that survived still had chronic illnesses. Despite these chronic illnesses, they survived and survived well. Most without assistance. Perhaps they are just delaying disability.
You have a lot of control over how long and how well you survive. Take advantage of it starting today.
