Show Notes:
One of the most difficult parts of running your own business is obtaining good health insurance. As an individual your options are limited. If you work in an area of business that has an association health insurance plan you may be in luck. But most solo entrepreneurs are left with only individual plans that are very limited or no health insurance at all.
So if you are interested in starting your own business you might want to research health insurance first. One site run by the Georgetown Health Policy Institute – healthinsuranceinfo.net – is a good place to start. Pick your state and they have information that can help you. Its comprehensive and updated frequently.
Chambers of Commerce, Small Business Service Bureau and AARP might be able to help you. Industry specific trade associations can also be helpful.
ehealthinsurance.com can help you look at different policies. These are mostly for the healthy. No coverage for Rhode Island, Vermont, Massachusetts, Maine or North Dakota.
Freelancers Union is in 30 states and could be helpful if you qualify. You must work in one of the industries or occupations it serves.
Lack of good reasonable health insurance has stopped many people from starting their own business. It is a serious problem.
