Show Notes:

For some people learning a foreign language can be easy and for others not so easy.  It is probably best to learn from a native speaker.  But how do you do that without traveling to that country?

To day there are two web sites that can help.  The first one is livemocha.com.  It offers French, German, Hindi, Chinese, Spanish and English.  There are lessons, exercises and a community of teaches and students you can interact with and practice your lessons.  The idea is to create a community around each language where students can help each other.

One of the problems I always had with languages was not having the ability to practice it.  With these communities that problem is solved.

The second site is ChinesePod.com or SpanishPod.com.  Their lessons are written and done through podcasts.  They offer similar benefits to livemocha.com but are limited to Chinese and Spanish.  I have tried SpanishPod.com and it is very practical and easy.

So if you are interested in learning a foreign language these are two new sites to help you accomplish it.

Hello! As the host of SpanishPod, I'm glad you found our lessons practical and easy!

There is no question that language learning absolutely necessitates real communication practice; this is something that traditional classroom language courses and many audio-only programs lack. This communication practice is something that SpanishPod, ChinesePod, and Live Mocha can bring to the party, thanks to technology.

I think the distinction between the Praxis Language podcasts (SpanishPod and ChinesePod) and our colleagues at Live Mocha is an interesting one. SpanishPod is centered around the daily lessons; whereas Live Mocha is centered around networking itself.
